[The plan for life] emerges from the comradeship of the road rather than the diagrams of the classroom.

Jessica Reznicek

In January 2016, the Dakota Access Pipeline was approved for construction: a 1,172-mile long route to transfer crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois.

Jessica Reznicek attended public hearings; she gathered signatures for petitions; she organised marches and rallies; she participated in peaceful civil disobedience. Nothing worked: construction continued. Protesters were arrested and sued. The system was broken. So from election night 2016, Reznicek and one other Catholic Worker took direct action: they burned machinery, pierced steel valves and destroyed heavy equipment - all to delay completion of the pipeline. No one was injured. Reznicek admits to all of this.
